What started out as a simple means to encourage better recycling practices on their campuses, Ed Newman of the Ohio State University and Stacy Edmonds Wheeler of Miami University (Ohio) decided to begin an all out recycling competition between their rivaling schools.
KL Hassen co-founded Organic Home, LLC in 2006. In addition to running Organic Home, Hassen is a published poet and multimedia artist, incorporating photography, art, music, text and video for 'real' and virtual projects. There is no doubt that economic downturns are tough, however it does afford homeowner's the opportunity to decide what is really important to them. Energy bills are skyrocketing as more and more Americans are without work, forcing some homeowners to make a decision about what household purchases should be made now, and what should be put off for a less monsoon-like day.
About twenty minutes after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the midst of a debate that could determine nothing less than the economic future of the entire nation, Pennsylvania Senator Robert Casey emerged from the U.S. Senate chamber and walked directly to a group of Philadelphians waiting to speak with him.
Most every word or expression that describes careful consumption has a negative connotation. Would you like to be called cheap? Tight-fisted? Cost-Conscious? A penny pincher? Ick! Why not just call me Scrooge?
Even the more neutral terms convey skimpiness. Thrift evokes buying low-end, cheesy merchandise. Being economical suggests a lack of means to purchase anything classier. Even “careful” strikes a tone of anxious watching, tracking each penny. Who wants to hear about self-discipline, really?
A person’s feet are the source of their adventure; their motion, their capability to reach their desires and travel from point A to point B. Some people might say humans take advantage of their feet. People forget (even though they use them all the time) that feet allow us to do so much.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are, again, Super Bowl Champions. For the sixth time in the team’s storied history, the boys in gold and black were successful in their quest for the title this past Sunday, and they are sure celebrating in a sustainable style. It is unfortunate that our Philadelphia Eagles could not have me them in the Super Bowl, but fans can take some solace in the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers have produced the first 100% organic Championship T-Shirt, available at the teams website here.
