The massive earthquake in Haiti has caused a major crisis of homelessness. Addressing it poses almost inconceivable challenges.
People need shelter that can be built very quickly and cheaply, that can be replicated thousands of times. It needs to be secure from the elements, and it needs to respect the culture of the Haitian people.

Inspired by some artist friends of his, New York Times eco-blogger Andy Revkin asked a fascinating group of people that simple yet hugely complicated question: What matters most?
Venice. Amsterdam. Prague. Paris. These are some cities that are making "ten-most-romantic cities” lists. I just looked at three such sites, and Venice, Prague and Paris were consensus picks. Amsterdam was on two of the lists, as were Rome, Edinburgh, and New York.
