As the CleanTech “Geen” Energy Economy expands in the U.S. and around the world some entrepreneurs are learning how to focus their business models to make a meaningful impact. Michael L. Smith, owner of Round 2 Lighting, LLC, was among the 32 graduates of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses-Greater Philadelphia program in August, 2014.

Round 2 Lighting is an energy efficient lighting agency that helps commercial property owners and managers save money.

“The 10,000 Small Businesses program has changed my life forever. The opportunity to focus on my business and to learn how to grow my business will be threaded through the culture of Round2Lighting. Every employee will be engaged in the continuous improvement process and given the responsibility to keep Round 2 Lighting growing for years to come.”- Michael L. Smith

The business owners have spent 14 weeks - roughly 100 class hours - at the Main Campus of Community College of Philadelphia actively engaged in an entrepreneurial business curriculum designed by Babson College and delivered by the community college faculty. The curriculum covered all elements of running one’s business, from money and metrics to marketing and sales. The program also included one-on-one business advising, accounting workshops and advice from top law firms and Goldman Sachs professionals.

Applications for 10,000 Small Businesses are accepted on a rolling basis at Community College of Philadelphia, with October 6, 2014 as the deadline to apply for the next cohort. The program is open to business owners from across the Greater Philadelphia region. Applications may be downloaded at
