The Nanyang Technology University announced June 3 that it has formed a multi-disciplinary energy research center to research complex energy-related issues. The Energy Research Institute will be a venue for scientists to assemble and exchange ideas across various disciplines.

The center will include as many as six research centers. The Centre for Sustainable Energy Research, which cost $60 million to create, is slated to open in July. The Centre will focus on the study of fuel cells, wind and tidal energy, and energy efficiency and smart buildings.

Five additional sectors will be launched in the next two years to study geothermal and solar-thermal energy, improving energy efficiency in maritime transportation, and effective policy instruments to address energy security.
