Two Seemingly Small Approvals by Two Major Organizations Lead to Big Things on Earth Day for one LED Company

As Earth Day week comes to a close, it is important to highlight some accomplishments of growing companies in the ‘Green’ sector. The Energy Revolution is not just about big oil companies going green, or companies like GE and Siemens changing the world. Smaller companies are taking great strides to help reduce energy consumption in the U.S. and create jobs here at home.

LED Saving Solutions (LSS) is a LED lighting supplier based just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This week LSS made two very big announcements. First, testing facility Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has approved the LSS Parking Garage Fixture. Becoming ‘UL Rated’ is a major step in the lighting industry opening many doors for the up and coming company.

Underwriters Laboratories is an industry standard when it comes to safety. The majority of facility managers and engineers must use products that are UL Listed. The review process takes approximately seven months and both the fixtures, tubes, and power supplies are put through rigorous testing. Another advantage to becoming UL Listed is that the LSS Parking Garage fixture is now eligible for many rebates and incentives offered by utility companies across the country. With these rebates, the return on investment for these fixtures can be less than 6 months (depending on several factors including run time, kWh cost, etc). Receiving this first UL approval also allows LSS to submit other fixtures for approval with a much shorter testing phase due to the available testing data already on file with Underwriters Laboratories.

The second major announcement of the week comes in the form of Con Edison of New York approving LED Saving Solutions as a Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Market Partner. For over 180 years, Con Edison, Inc. has provided energy to metropolitan New York, servicing approximately 3.3 million customers. After an in-depth review process, including direct contact with LSS customers, Con Edison approved the Parking Fixture, giving LSS customers the ability to capitalize on ConEd’s many rebate and incentive programs. Already saving customers in Metropolitan New York 50%-85% on lighting costs, LSS now has the ability leverage these rebate programs and create payback scenarios well inside two years. With lifetime estimates of ten years and a guaranteed 5-year warranty, the savings potential is unmatched.

Although the economy of the United States is shifting to more sustainable business practices, companies like LSS are not relying on the ‘tree-hugger approach’ in order to gain recognition. More and more companies are focusing the Cost Savings to help clients see the energy saving potential. The bottom line goal of the current energy economy is to save money. Reducing our carbon footprint and helping to prevent climate change is very important to all ‘green’ companies and individuals, however this is not always an effective selling point. Saving money can be just as important (if not more important) to Corporate America than saving the planet. After consumers are presented with cost saving proposals of 50%-85% on lighting it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the LED Lighting revolution.
