Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell on May 28 announced the launch of PA Sunshine Solar Program to provide rebates for Pennsylvania homeowners and small business owners seeking to cut electricity and hot water costs by installing solar energy technology.

The expense of installing solar energy technology often deters individuals or businesses from relying on alternative energy; but, along with federal tax credits, consumers could reduce system costs by 45 percent, the Governor said. The program will reimburse homeowners and small business owners up to 35 percent of the purchase and installation costs of solar energy technology. These discounts make it easier to move toward eco-friendly technologies, which results in energy conservation and reducing the demand on the electricity grid, he said.

PA Sunshine is part of the $650 million Alternative Energy Investment Fund Governor Rendell has already signed.

The governor made the announcement at the home of Charles and Lynette Bushka in Philadelphia. The Bushkas have made several energy efficient improvements to their home and have had plans to hire Heat Shed Inc. to install a five kilowatt solar system on their home.
