Philadelphia Area green building pioneers - and our friends - Denale, Inc. have asked us to make an announcement for them. On April 1, Denale, the Philadephia 76ers, and the Comcast Spectacor Foundation will be throwing a party to showcase green architecture, green home interiors, and green art. If you're in Philly and interested in green building or green basketball, read the message from Denale below and, if you can, stop by Sheldon Crossing on April 1....
With Earth Day approaching, most of us are at least curious about the latest innovations in Green Design. What are the smartest new ideas to save money, energy and natural resources yet are still stylish and comfortable? Sheldon Crossing, targeted for Platinum certification by the LEED for Homes Program, will showcase the answers.
In honor of NBA Green Week, on April 1, 2010 from 6-9 PM, you can interact with players from the Philadelphia 76ers and get the first look at Sheldon Crossing, located at 4711 Sheldon Street in Manayunk. Developers Denale Inc. in conjunction with The Comcast Spectacor Foundation will be hosting this event to present the best in green architecture, fixtures, appliances, furnishings, and art. Meet the creators of various types of eco-friendly design. The artists all conceptualize using the same mantra: re-think, re-use, re-create, re-invent and re-cycle. The area's first ‘Green Design Home’ will be open for one month following this opening event. A portion of all the monies raised benefit The Comcast Spectacor Foundation and the many local charities it endows.
The 20 carriage homes at Sheldon Crossing boast reclaimed slate on the bathroom walls and floors rescued from a shuttered school, countertops made of reclaimed antique pine that would otherwise have gone to a landfill, and Smart Home Automation that allows one to control climate, lighting, security and audio-visual from a smart phone while away from home. There are also radiant heated bathroom floors, a fireplace surround comprised of reclaimed coconut shells, dual flush toilets and water purification systems. All are environmentally sensitive and stylistically chic yet maximize energy and water conservation. Outside, a ‘Tree of Life’, crafted from debris at the construction site, will be dedicated and leaves on the tree available for purchase. The tree will be donated to Mayor Nutter and the City of Philadelphia to permanently install in an appropriate place.
At the event, check out the new electric Smart Car manufactured by Daimler, soon to roll off assembly lines, and learn how it is fueled by a charging station installed in the home garage. Drink eco-smart beverages like organic vodka out of biodegradable cups and taste delicious healthy appetizers from Bruce Cooper of Jake’s. Climb up to the roof deck featuring a green roof – your “private park in the sky.” It also boasts a waterfall, fireplace, summer kitchen and spectacular views of Center City and the Main Line. Bid on a canvas made by the Philadelphia 76ers, a team renowned for its commitment to green principals.
All of us can embrace a greener lifestyle. Each small step can improve your health, save you money, and help save the planet. Many of these innovative, exciting technologies, services and housing choices are here, and so the future is now.
