The Carpuccino

Sick of hearing about miles per gallon? How about espresso shots per mile?

That's how the makers of the Carpuccino, a refurbished 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco that runs on coffee grounds, measure efficiency. Fifty six shots to the mile is what they're getting at the moment. That's not efficient enough to be affordable, but it is another transportation alternative that could bloom into something bigger.

According to Inhabitat, the wonderful people on whose website we found this story:

"We’ve seen vehicles powered by everything from chocolate to poo, so a car juiced by coffee doesn’t seem like that big of a stretch."

The Carpuccino is the brainchild of the team behind the BBC science show Bang Goes The Theory, and, if your travels send you close to Manchester, England on March 11, 12, or 13, stop by the Big Bang Science Fair and have a look.
