UN Global Climate Change Chief Yvo de Boer announced on Thursday that he plans to resign on July 1. He thinks he can do more for the world as a business consultant and professor.
Though it was a difficult four years for him at the UN - four years that culminated with a disappointing summit in Copenhagen - de Boer remains optimistic:
Copenhagen did not provide us with a clear agreement in legal terms, but the political commitment and sense of direction toward a low-emissions world are overwhelming. This calls for new partnerships with the business sector and I now have the chance to help make this happen.
