Starting Friday, commuters in New York City will have a new transportation option. During morning rush hour (6am to 10am), along three test routes, people will be able to ride in shared, fixed-fare taxi cabs.
It'll cost $3 for the first passenger and $4 for each additional rider.
According to Taxi and Limousine Commission Chief Matt Daus, it's good for everyone:
The concept really boils down to: take less money out of passengers’ pockets, put more money in drivers’ pockets, put less pollution in the air, and give passengers more transportation options... What's not to like?
