He's been called "the guy next door" and just plain "humble", but now Kris Allen holds the title as the 2009 American Idol. The Conway, Arkansas native and UCA student was crowned winner of the American Idol Wednesday night at the end of Fox's two-hour live broadcast from Hollywood . This has many people in shock as the underdog who seemed to be facing an insurmountable obstacle in judge favorite, Adam Lambert. Before American Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced Kris Allen the winner that after a record of nearly 100 million votes were received after Tuesday’s final performance, last year’s American Idol winner David Cook presented both Kris Allen and Adam Lambert with a brand new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While one could argue that the sometimes laughable usage of the weekly “Ford Music Video” as a product placement mechanism was “air pollution” it is nice to think that at least there will be two more hybrid vehicles on the road. As its name implies the Ford Fusion Hybrid is a gas-electric version of the popular midsize family sedan. Starting at $27,270, basic features include: dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights, keyless entry, power windows, mirrors, and locks, capless refueling, traction control, and ABS. Also included is a six-speaker stereo, eco-responsible seats, 17-inch wheels, traction control, and a reverse sensor. Ford says the hybrid Fusion will be capable of up to 700 miles of in-town driving. Now if only Fox could convince all of those individuals that voted for American Idol to participate in one simple “green” activity such as using a stainless steel water bottle instead of plastic bottles or even consider watching next year’s American Idol on an Energy Star rated flat screen TV.
