Lighting

You do not need solar panels to make electricity when the first step is to reduce your waste and SAVE money.

Lighting
Lighting typically accounts for at least 21% of office energy use. According to a US Department of Energy (DOE) end use study from 1995, lighting accounts for as high as about 29 percent of the energy use in a typical office. A number of energy saving opportunities for offices can cut the energy used for lighting in half.

How does green add up?
IBM took an early eco-leadership role at the beginning of the 1990s. By encouraging employees to turn off equipment and lights when not needed, IBM estimated that it saved $17.8 million worldwide in 1991 alone. Since the majority of domestic electricity is generated by coal burning power plants, the aggregate effect of these simple changes is comparable to removing 50,000 cars from the road and avoiding over 190,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The math of electricity:

Annual Energy Use = (# of watts) X (hours used per day) X (days per year) / 1,000 = kilowatt hours (kWh)
Approximate Cost = ___kilowatt hours X ($.12 to $.18 per kWh depending on your region and utility company)

Examples of energy consumption and costs: (Where do you stand with your staff?)

Scenario #1: (most wasteful)
Incandescent Light: 100 watts, 40 hours/week, 50 weeks/year =
1400 kilowatt hours (@ $.15) = $210.00

Scenario #2: (Energy Saving)
Compact Fluorescent Lamp or LED: 20 watts, 40 hours/week, 50 weeks/year=
1400 kilowatt hours (@ $.15) = $42.00

How does the program WORK? Given the cash flow constraints of many businesses in this recession, we have recently established some ground-breaking industry relationships that reduce up-front costs to $0 for business owners. LED bulb and tube retrofits have the five star advantage: 80% less energy use than fluorescent tubes, extreme long life, dimmability control, diverse light color selection, and mercury free technology. Plus, for commercial LED lighting upgrades, our clients can now pay only on the savings that are actually generated each month. This ‘Performance’ approach puts all of the risk on our shoulders.

How much money can I SAVE? With LEDs you can SAVE 80% on your lighting bills without spending a single dollar upfront. Lighting typically accounts for 20% of commercial energy consumption, and it can run over 50% for certain facilities like Hospitals. As an example, each fluorescent bay of tubes (typ. 2’ x 4’) uses at least $100 of electricity each year if they run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The latest generation of LED tubes only uses $20 of electricity for the same lighting bay each year. For every 100 lighting bays that adds up to $8,000 of annual savings. The 80% energy savings is dramatic, and it is enhanced by the fact that the bulbs last for at least 50,000 hours (over 25 years at the typical 2,000 hours per year). So, commercial clients save on the monthly bills and also on the replacement cost of fluorescent tubes and the accompanying labor. Commercial LEDs will literally run for decades and the payback comes within two to three years, depending on use. You may want to take the bulbs with you if your leave the property!

How do I get STARTED? To get started, just let us know a good day and time for us to come on site and review ‘count’ the bulbs/fixtures, or email us a lighting schedule. We then prepare and deliver the report with the calculations on the annual and monthly operating costs and the projected savings each month and year. The cost for the Review and the Report is free. You then decide to pay for the LED bulbs up front, or pay on a 36 month payment plan, or choose the ‘Performance’ Energy Saving Share Program. With the Performance Program, you just pay 60% of the monthly savings relative to the electricity used each month, as it relates to the consumption in the month of the trailing year. We have structured this program so that you do not have to pay ANYTHING up-front and you will actually start saving money in the very first month. This is the most cost-effective energy saving solution available.
