Renewable Energy: Renewable energy effectively uses natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity to biomass and biofuels for transportation. About 13 percent of primary energy comes from renewables, with most of this coming from traditional biomass like wood-burning. Hydropower is the next largest source, providing 2-3%, and modern technologies like geothermal, wind, solar, and marine energy together produce less than 1% of total world energy demand.[2] The technical potential for their use is very large, exceeding all other readily available sources.[3]

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), also known as Green tags, Renewable Energy Credits, or Tradable Renewable Certificates (TRCs), are tradable environmental commodities that represent proof that 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource. These certificates can be sold and traded and the owner of the REC can claim to have purchased renewable energy. While traditional carbon emissions trading programs promote low-carbon technologies by increasing the cost of emitting carbon, RECs can incentivize carbon-neutral renewable energy by providing a production subsidy to electricity generated from renewable sources

New Segment – Grumpy Old Men Complain About Everything

Fred: Can you believe these young people today Barney? They’re all worried ‘bout what the planet’s gonna look like in 100 years. I already can’t see 3 feet in front of my face, so I don’t even care what it looks like now!

Barney: I know what you’re sayin’ Fred, my grandkids got me seperatin’ my trash for recycling… aluminum here, clear glass there, plastic over there… it’s gettin’ on my nerves! Whatta you think Willard?

Willard: What’s wrong with you knuckleheads. Don’t you care if our great-great-great –great-great grandkids will have a lake to go skinny-dippin’ in like we did?

Fred: Did you have to actually use the word “skinny-dip”? Now I’m gonna have an image of you swimmin’ naked in my head until the day I die… which’ll probably be next week sometime, but still! Eeeeeew!!!

Barney: Ya know, even my 55 year old son has me puttin’ in them contract flumessence lightbulbs. Says they save a butt-load of electricity.

Willard: If you’d stop reading those romance novels and pick up a danged newspaper, you’d know that if every household in the U.S. changed over one incandescent lightbulb to a compact fluorescent lightbulb, we’d save enough electricity in this country to light up a city of 200,000 people for a year!

Fred: Anyone seen my walker?

Barney: It’s right next to ya, you old coot!

Willard: Government’s gonna outlaw the incandescent lightbulb anyhow. They just use too much electric. Anything that was invented ‘before I was born has got to be obsolete by now. I just don’t understand how “ we “ move so slow.

Fred: Well, we are all over 80 now.

Barney: Huh?

Willard: Not us, “we”. The U.S. Government “we”. Seems like we gotta be down to our final out before they decide to start scorin’ some runs. I just don’t get it. Are we stupid?

Fred: Speak fer yerself. I’d like to think I’ve got a little intelligence.

Barney: Huh?

Willard: Not us, “we”. The U.S. Government “we”.

Barney: Huh?

Fred: Turn up your hearing aid Barney!

Barney: Huh?

Fred: I said “turn up your hearing aid!”

Barney: Oh, sorry. All I know is that I keep my teeth in a glass, I can’t hear and I’m wearing diapers now, and all my daughter is concerned about is whether or not I’m puttin’ a dry towel in the dryer with my wet clothes to cut down on my dryer bill. Can you imagine?

Willard: My son went out to this website called greenandsave.com and it told him step by step how to save all kinds of money around the house by usin’ low flow shower heads, Europian style toilets, on-demand hot water, whole house fans, proper insulation… all kinds of stuff. It’s not just about savin’ the planet… it’s about savin’ a buck too! And my daughter… she went out and bought her an electric car. An electric car! Times’re changin’ boys. Times’re changin’.

Fred: If only we could go back to the old days of parachute pants and mullets! Hey! Who wants to go skinny-dippin’?

Only in America!

A California Couple is facing criminal charges because the eight redwoods in their backyard cast a shadow on a neighbor’s solar panels. The owners of the property with the redwoods are super-green, hybrid driving environmentalists, and “were like, totally shocked man” when the court ruled them in violation of a California State environmental law that says the solar panels have priority over the redwoods and ordered the trees be removed. To date they have refused, and have already spent in excess of $25,000 on legal fees. “We support solar power,” said redwood owner Carolyn Bissett. “But we thought common sense would prevail.” How do deal with that one?
