LED Lighting

Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology has come a long way since the early dual in-line package diodes, like the ones in this "historical" photograph. The payback is often less than 3 years.

The latest generations of surface mounted diodes have efficiency in high lumens/watt that continues to increase. LEDs are the clear winner over fluorescent T12, T8, and T5 tubes. For sockets applications, LED bulbs and recessed can replacements are also the clear winner over CFLs for long term performance. LEDs are much less toxic than fluorescent, because they do not have any mercury. Plus, they are easy to install in existing sockets and fixtures. The LED Operating Life is 30,000 to 100,000 + hrs (10 + years), with Solid-State, Fast Turn On, and No Power Surge. They are High Shock / Vibration Resistant, and provide Major Power Savings.

LED bulbs, tubes, and fixtures also provide Major Reduction in Heat Generation and a Choice of Colors from warm in the 2700 Kelvin range to cool at 5500 Kelvin or higher. One LED light bulb can easily outlast 30 incandescent bulbs, or 6 compact fluorescents! LED bulbs cost much less to operate than the bulbs they replace. Operating 12 hours per day, LED light bulbs can last 7 years or more!

Property and Business owners have helped to bring the price down by buying more LED lights and increasing the demand for mass LED production. Now, innovative financing and "Savings Share" programs are in place where the business owner can benefit from the savings without making an initial investment. These Zero upfront cost solutions deliver positive cash flow from the very first month. Plus, lighting as a service is an innovative new option as well, especially for business decision makers that are tenants vs. property owners. See: LED Lighting Service Contracts

With the mercury in florescent lighting, LEDs are the obvious choice. A 25 Watt CFL is equal to a 100 Watt incandescent while a 16 Watt LED will have the same light output as a 100 Watt incandescent. (Note the most recent LED technology delivers the same output for under 10 watts in many cases.) A CFL will last 10 times as long as an incandescent, but an LED will last 100 times as long.

The ROI Calculation is based on very conservative low run times for 20 recessed office light replacements without regional rebate factors. So, other areas with fluorescent tube conversions to LEDs will have an even greater ROI and shorter payback. Plus, new rebate incentives often reduce the initial LED retrofit cost by 20% or more, subject to the utility company's incentive program.

For Specialty Auditing, go for a Lighting Energy Audit. Since the latest generation of LED Lights is one of the most cost effective retrofits, you can see paybacks on 24/7 areas like fire stairs within a year and half and other areas within three years/ The savings are over 50%. See: Case Studies.
