Don Quixote comes upon his first windmill:

While aimlessly roaming the countryside Alonzo Quixano has come upon the questions of the ages and they have him thinking and thinking.... why am I here?, what is my purpose?, and how can Cran & Raspberry taste so good together? As usual, I digress...

Alonzo has read so many books on chivalry and stayed up so late at night that he has become delusional and now believes himself a Knight and a defender of all things in need of defense... I told you he was delusional....Together with his neighbor and self-appointed satirical sidekick, Sancho Panza, the renamed and self-styled Don Quixote of La Mancha has left home in search of his great love, Dull Senea....who is actually a neighboring farm girl who lives just over the hill and has no idea of delusional Don’s affections or afflictions.

On this particular afternoon, Don Q. and Sancho are out in search of adventure when they crest the hill behind Don Q.s house, just in time to see Dull Senea being swallowed up by an enormous beast with great whirling arms.

DQ: Pancho did you see that the beast with the great whirling arms has swallowed my beloved Dull Senea? We must free her!... attttaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!

SP: But DON Q. that’s not a beast. That’s a windmill, the latest design in wind power generators... the fuel is free ...and non toxic... and totally renewable… what kind of mushrooms did you put on your salad today? I think you may be a couple sandwiches short of a picnic!

DQ: Don’t be ridiculous my Sarcastic little Spaniard... that is a beast, and it is practically in my back yard... I shall dismount and attack it with my lance... NOT IN MY Back Yard, You Beast.... aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!

SP: Seems like I keep hearing that.... Don Q!!!! Watch out for the blades… I mean “the great whirling arms” (THUMP) woops, that’s gonna leave a mark. Here, let me help you up. You know Don Q., so many people do not want these windmills… I mean “beasts”, near their homes, but compared to many other types of energy generators, they look quite lovely and they are so much better for the future of our planet.... I mean look at all the power lines and cooling towers not to mention all the huge coal-fired generators belching fumes along our rivers. When you think about it... windmills several miles offshore seem like vastly superior aesthetic solution... and cost effective too!

DQ: I’ve got you now, you destroyer of birds and bats and beloveds… you ugly beeeeeeaaaaast!!!

SP: Wow, I would be so sick if I was being spun around like that... I can’t even go on the Tilt-a-Whirl at the Italian Festival. How on earth did you manage to get yourself stuck on the propeller like that? ...anyway my dorky, Castillian chum, the new windmills have bigger, slower rotating blades and are so effective in not harming wildlife, that they will be endorsed by the Audubon Society, which won’t actually exist for at least a hundred years... so I have no idea how I would know that... Although, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

DQ: Sancho!!! Please help me!!! The Beast has me and I fear I am the next to get swallowed!!!

SP: I think I should just let you spin for awhile. Perhaps it will shake some of the “looney” off of you. Although you gotta admire a guy like that who stands up for his woman… even if she is imaginary. Anyway, my warped companion, that beast isn’t going to devour you or produce electric bills which will devour you either...there is an initial cost of manufacturing and installation, (which decreases as we order more wind mills), but after those costs the production is a constant, non-escalating cost, unaffected by dwindling fuel supplies.

DQ: Hurry Sancho, I think we can slay this beast, if you can just get me down from here... my goodness, this creature is indefatigable… but I will soon wear him down… please my good man, I implore you…

SP: I am a good man… and unlike you, I’m sane. Wow, you really get up there when it hits its peak, don’t you. What are you able to see from your gyrating perch, my demented amigo?

DQ: I can see my house from here!

SP: Well my whacked compadre, I don’t think that the, uh, “beast” will be giving up any time soon. The reason it seems unstoppable is because it is. The parts are made much lighter and stronger these days and in the future they will be even longer lasting and easily repaired to ensure an excellent return on investment. By the way did you know that Denmark already gets about 29% of its energy from wind power? How ya makin’ out up there?

DQ: While I find your information fascinating. I am very close to spewing the Gespacho I had for luch. You think you might want to help me down now?

PS: No problem..... but first, how ‘bout we talk about that raise I was supposed to get when you insisted I attack that giant, “killer bagel” outside the Bakery back in La Mancha?
