Overall Segment #2 – 12:00

Weekly Educ. Segment - S.M. Chlorophyll and Father Seamus O’Toole – 5:30 Sponsored by: CMI Electric

SMC: Sit down class... Tommy put that out, ok give it here... OK, we’re finally done planning the “Last Supper Pot Luck Social”. I hope that all of you can cook... if not, make sure you don’t all grab a bucket of chicken and biscuits this time. They didn’t have KFC in Biblical times and believe me, Mother Superior is quite aware of this fact... Beside I’m trying to lose weight for the Franciscan Olympics... anyway, Father Shamus O’Toole is with us once again to talk about the Eco-mandments… Thou shalt not do something or another... so please give Father Seamus your undivided attention.

FSO: Good marnin’ children... I said, good marnin’ children!!!

Children: Good morning Father Seamus

FSO: Ok my little nose-minin’ sinners... today we are goin’ to talk about the Farth ECO-andment Thou Shalt Recycle... and that means you Mr. McGuiness... I see you wastin’ that paper with all those doodles you’re makin’ while I’m talkin’... What on earth are ya drawin’?... Oh my goodness, is that me? The resemblance is remarkable, although I think the mustache is a little over-the-top… looks good though… I do take exception to the horns and the tail, however. It doesn’t take a magic eight-ball to see severe penance in your future! Now turn that paper over and use the other side to draw a map to the principal’s office and follow it!!!

Tommy Toomey: Father, Father... ooh, ooh

FSO: Yes Tommy Toomey?

TT: Yeah, my dad was trowin’ out our carpet last nite...I mean he was puttin’ it in the trunk to take to the dump... but I read somewheres dat companies like DuPont will take your old carpet and shred it and recycle it and make new carpets out of ‘em... but my dad just drove off and didn’t say nuttin’.

FSO: Ah my naïve little cherub… farst, the reason yer father didn’t take it to be recycled is because there was probably a body wrapped up inside. Was it at all lumpy? Sister, you may want to call the clowns at CSI. And secondly, you are correct, my retinally challenged recycler... carpets, towels, draperies, clothes and almost any kind of fabric can be reused to make more carpets, towels, draperies and clothes... you see this clip on black tie? Sharp, eh? Well, not only was the material recycled, but the plastic clip is recycled… In fact, I see a resurgence of the recycled clip-on, and yes I was wearing black before it was Goth… before it was Goth, it was Godly. Let me tell you, you Punks, (and I mean “Punks” in the best way possible), got nothin’ on “Fast Freakin’ Seamus O’Toole!!!! I was Breakin’ and Crumpin’ and Poopin’ back behind the Monestery with my crew, before Mass, to psyche my self up before each Novina, back when you were all still just glimmers in yer father’s eyes. Bring on the Baptists... they got nothing on us!!! Sorry children, I just get worked up about my job sometimes…

Jennifer O’Reardon: Excuse me... Father, I was wondering is there a best way to recycle or drop off your separated garbage and waste?

FSO: Well my little sure-fire, first ballot, heaven hall-of-famer… that is a fine question. You can go to these web sites: dswa.com, recycledelaware.net and delawarerecycles.com… but the most important thing to remember is that almost anything can be recycled... as long as when it’s manufactured the companies makin’ it have thought o’ that. You know, you guys, the consumers, really are king. If you demand that a product be recyclable or that it use less packaging, the manufacturers will listen. Nothin’ happens in this world unless you are spendin’ money on it ... and speakin’ o’ spendin’, don’t forget the poor box this week. There but for the grace go I without my designer 21 jeans... anyway sharing is the key to recycling and not buying stuff you don’t need in the first place... Remember the parable about the consumer society that got consumed by its greed and consumption. You don’t hear about the Mesapotanians anymore, do you? Yes, William Martini?

WM: Uh Father? My mother says that me wearing my older brothers and sisters clothes is a way of recycling. I don’t know, but I feel kinda funny about it.....

FSO: Why yes William, for someone so visually impaired, your mother is quite the visionary… ahead of her time, so to speak. We should, as a society, start making everything to last as long as possible or at least be recyclable.....We’ve already started with cars and steel, plastic bottles for deckin’, sidin’ and even clothes. We’re recyclin’ our asphalt for road surfaces, glass bottles for the same and countertops and floorin’. We can recycle our car batteries, our clothes, packagin’, resole our shoes, buildings and more… but we must all remember that we need to build and manufacture products which last longer....then there is no need to constantly buy and then recycle...

So Miss Kempski… can you tell me what the Farth Eco-mandment means for you?

Patty Kempksi: Uh… well Father… I guess it means I should stop getting’ a new boyfriend every three days and pick just one… and make it a good one, sos it’ll last a while.

FSO: Precisely my un-saintly strumpet. Maybe you can get everyone to stop callin’ ya names. Wouldn’t that be nice. I’ll be back in a couple o’ weeks to talk about the Fifth Eco-Mandment – “Thou shalt keep the car properly maintained”.

Doug to answer Our last question comes from John Caahktoasten from Viola, DE. John wants to know: “I live on 7 acres, and my property is about a category 4 or 5 for wind.
