Todays topic: The 12 best ways to reduce your energy footprint, in no particular order:

  1. Take public transportation: not driving or car pooling is one of the most effective ways of reducing carbon and not using precious fossil fuels.
  2. Put a programmable thermostat on your heating and cooling ( turn way down or up over night ), clean filter regularly, and set degrees up 5 and down five degrees respectively to start.
  3. Wrap your hot water heater, make it gas, programmable thermostat, lower temp or hot water on demand.
  4. hang your clothes outside to dry...huge savings
  5. Change appliances when time to Energy Star, dryer gas, refrigerator gas...prep for solar electric
  6. Install solar panels if you can, expandable system, rebates, solar hot water
  7. Install low flow shower heads, faucets, toilets....( Rain Barrels for other water
  8. Hybrid, electric or plug in car.....high mileage mini, car share
  9. Recycle everything you can, and buy recycled goods, buy less
  10. Power chords, turn off all electronics, ghost loads (Vampires) and change the light bulbs to compact fluorescents
  11. Change what and how you eat....
  12. Invest your money in Socially Responsible growth oriented businesses and/or funds. More on this later.

cristina.org will help you find a home for your used computer. Don’t forget that several of the pc manufacturers offer recycling programs also. Dell, HP and Apple all do.
