Kate Moran, an oceans and climate change expert, will take on the newly-added job of a climate analyst at the White House, starting this week. A University of Rhode Island scientist, Moran has the interest and knowledge that the Office of Science & Technology was looking for.

Her education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Master's Degree in Ocean Engineering and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. At URI, Moran teaches undergraduate courses in ocean engineering and graduate courses in marine geotechnics, coastal measurements, and numerical modeling in ocean sciences.

Additionally, she was co-chair of the 2004 Arctic Expedition, revealing 55 million years of climate change, and lead the first research group to study the 2004 Earthquake causing the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami.

At the White House, Moran will assist the Office of Science and Technology in targeting worldwide climate change issues. With her past experience and dedication to researching climate change, peers are confident stating "Kate can hold her ground, she can speak with objective authority. She doesn't get upset, and she doesn't make people look stupid."
