The Philadelphia Eagles have quietly become the most environmentally friendly team in the National Football League, and perhaps in all of major league sports. When the lights come on for an Eagles game at Lincoln Financial Field, 30 percent of the power comes from so-called clean sources, such as wind power and methane reclaimed from landfills. When the Eagles fly to an away game, their organization plants trees in the Philadelphia area to make up for the carbon dioxide emitted by the team's plane. Even the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders are in on the “green” act.

The entire cheerleading squad recently showed off bikinis made of recycled soda bottles and organic cotton by designers Aaron Chang and San Natura Organics for the Eagles Cheerleaders 2009 Eco-Sexy Calendar. The jewelry worn by the cheerleaders was also made from recycled, repurposed or "up-cycled" materials like animal shells, dried flowers and repurposed silver, guitar picks, melted forks and knives, feathers, and even nuts from Latin and South America. In addition the calendar is printed on recycled paper. Cheerleader Kristin Garofalo said, “By having an eco-friendly calendar, we are definitely setting an example for our fans, and the world.”
