Green Your Uniform

Imagine putting on your uniform that was once in the hands of another consumer in plastic bottle form. Apparel made from recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate, also known as PET, is now available and is growing in popularity. PET is a polymer resin used to make plastic beverage containers. When post consumer plastic bottles and containers are recycled they can be transformed into a durable, eco-friendly fabric. Apparel made from PET is less costly than traditional fabrics. Implementing a uniform program using these eco-friendly fabrics is not only cost-effective but also smart for the environment.

To manufacture a PET uniform it starts with recycling day to day plastic beverage bottles and/or containers. Bottles are smashed, processed into filaments that are spun into yarn and woven into fabrics, which are then ready to create uniforms such as aprons, hats, bags etc.

Think about these interesting facts!

  1. It takes just six recycled water bottles to contribute to the manufacture of a hat for someone to wear on the job!
  2. After a weeks time of consuming beverages in your family household, you could recycle close to twenty-five empty plastic bottles. That amount is the first step to create a new apron for someone in the food industry!

Fabric made from PET is synthetic and is in the polyester family. Apparel and accessories are also available in earth friendly fabrics such as organic cotton, bamboo, and corn made.

Many companies including hotel chains, resorts and restaurants are transitioning to these new eco-friendly uniform lines for their staff. The end result is a fashionable, cost-effective and extremely comfortable wearable. It is an initiative that companies are proud of because it also contributes to their sustainability efforts.
