Today we are going to present Green News. We've been promising this for a long time and we have had so many guests and so many almost over time shows that we just haven't gotten to it yet. So we have items of interest and importance from around the world and from right down the street. OK so Number 1.
Is, and try and keep an open mind...

  1. How Wal-Mart is saving millions with clean green technology.

The clean check form that took place in Toronto this week had an interesting guest. Senior director of corporate strategy and sustainability of Wal-Mart, Rand Wadddoups. Who regaled the audience with a pretty interesting array of facts and figures on the retailers green Push according to clean techs news site. Wal-Mart started to revamp its practices and become more green two years ago. The campaign revolves around good public relations, but also cutting costs. When you manage millions of square feet of retail space small changes add up.

Saving: Company is saving one meaning year on energy costs by removing lightbulbs from employees cope machines

  2. Another 10 many year got saved by more aggressively recycling cardboard and plastic overall Wal-Mart thinks he can turn the hundred million tons of solid waste it produces a year into a profit center
  3. Another 2.6 million get saved by putting below lead LEDs in freezers and set a fluorescent bulbs swap alone cuts down 35,000,000 pounds of carbon dioxide fuel efficiency is up 15% in its 6500 fleet of cars

So the point here is everybody can be green everybody should be green whether or not you spend your dollar at Wal-Mart is your decision on being green. But don't be surprised if some of our biggest supporters are some of the smartest businessmen in town. And I'm not getting get off on a rant here are anything but I got to say I guess we all should keep an open mind. Wal-Mart's got a pretty bad rap as being the big bad boy capitalist eating up the block in our local neighborhoods. Although that is one of the largest and most consumer driven corporate black holes in our most recent history of our large department store chains it is noted that this bastion of retail has taken green very seriously. I think we have to look for our allies where we can and to notice when people of picked up the banner. Everyone should be green, can be green, and will be green eventually. Frankly this is a refreshing entrée for other large corporations to not just play at being green but to really push the envelope in seeing how far they can stretch their green dollars and save some planet the same time. I say go for Wal-Mart and everybody else try to catch up. You might want to rethink where you buy those CFL's next time.

1a. Jean Lafontaine of the French environmental Ministry cabinet has announced a new initiative by the French to instill a new and far-reaching Green mobilization program in France. As you know the French have been a little bit behind in terms of their green initiatives and in leading the international community towards a greener and more sustainable future. Former President Shirock was not the most environmentally minded high-ranking government official in Europe and usually had the same response when asked about his lacking green initiative.

“ Green why do we need to be green with a French we can be any color that we want to be a French we are free Frenchmen free to do whatever we want with our cigarette butts are empty bottles of wine and our women I guess you're suggesting that we recycled them Zute alor, that is not a bad suggestion that told."

As you can imagine most Frenchmen were proud of this however rational minds have prevailed and women have voted him out of office the new Ministry of environmental care has published some initiatives and although not as far-reaching as most Frenchmen or environmentalist would have wanted it is a start for the French.

  1. Reduce pollution: no spitting in public places, use less moose in your hair, and no smoking of any cigarettes without a filter. And of course upon exhaling the noxious smoke every Frenchmen must find a French woman and recycled in the gases between the two of them.
  2. Food waste: although it is illegal to use a butter substitute in cooking in France the triumvirate has agreed to using a list salt real butter substitute however on Bastille day and Independence Day you may and are encouraged to use heavy cream butter all day long. As the French are known for their seafood dishes they see no need to change their approach to protein and have agreed to reduce their consumption of mussels and clams only as we know there is no discussion on oysters. And in a magnanimous gesture of French diplomacy they have agreed to ban McDonald's and Burger King from their borders. The triumvirate was heard to be saying who “Hooray , Hooray, Hooray and take that to big eared squeaky mouse with you also”
  3. As the French have explained they already recycle older wine bottles, daily. And as we all know there are masters of water conservation.
  4. And in a grand gesture of international brotherhood the French have taken the cucumber and sliced it into long square strips and our deep frying it in fat-free canola oil and serving it with ketchup and mayonnaise and selling it as the American veggie fry. They are sure it will be a huge hit if served with capers and a Beaujolais with a very light bouquet.
  5. The ministry has agreed to continue their programs for riding bicycles, using mass transit, building nuclear power plants as fast as they can, saving energy by reducing their workweek even further and a most wise and time-honored

II. just how many electric car startup companies are there out there. A guest in considering your next car purchase and looming peak oil question might arise on some people's minds at at least those who are awake. This would include electric and plug-in startups.
Okay I can about 16:

  1. Tesla motors fast sports car,
  2. Wrightspeed: sports cars and plug-in drivetrains for trucks
  3. Fisker Automotive: electric sedans
  4. Zap: the speed and sports cars
  5. Miles automotive; low speed
  6. Zen motors: low speed
  7. AC propulsion; retrofitting scion's for electric
  8. APtera;3 wheel car

Okay we get the point the rest are sports cars from England economy cars from Riva ultra motor electric tri-shaws like rickshaws, Myers motors are freakish three wheelers featured in Gold member. There are some electric economy cars more three wheel vehicles in this doesn't count out the major car companies GM and Nissan were committed to coming out with electric cars and electric plug-ins. There also three electric scooters and the motorcycle guys at zero motorcycles backtracks and Bramwell all electric motorcycles that doesn't even count the golf cart guys when the battery guys like Altair nanotechnologies mature trying to develop some really super batteries for the future so that is a one's I've been able to research so far matures you that there's quite a bit choice out there if you'd only get caught with the rest of the guys owning one of those gas gobblers and think electric. You know they are not as slow as you think they are.

IIa. In a related story: nearly 35% of American children ages six to 19 are overweight half of those some 11 million children are so overweight their classofied as obese. Over the last 25 years the obesity rate has doubled for young children and has tripled for teenagers as a result diseases once associated only with adults such as type 2 diabetes high blood pressure and even cirrhosis of the liver on the rise among children if the trend in childhood obesity continues experts predict that over the next few decades that will cut as much as five years off the average American's lifespan are kids said California health official Dr. Jason Everhart Phillips quote belong to the first generation of Americans life expectancy could well be shorter than that of their parents"

The epidemic of overeating is a prime contributor to the nation soaring health-care tab the nation now spends an estimated 177 billion a year on obesity related health care, $.83 of every health care dollar. Enough said.

Diet seems to be only half of the problem the other half is that kids are burning fewer calories because they're exercising less. Instead of running around outside riding bicycles, or playing sports in the park were in the street, young people today spend most of their time indoors, surfing the web, playing video games, and chatting on cell phones. Kids now spend nearly 4 hours a day watching TV or videos one hour and 44 minutes listening to music and at least one hour using the computer. Enough said

Well here's a novel idea why don't the parents cut back their food rations a bit. And maybe were not even the right stuff maybe these vegetarians have some things to say. Perhaps I'm just taking a stab in the dark if you say supersize me then it's going to happen, and with children it's going to happen quicker. Looks like were a nation of people addicted to the wrong kinds of food. So you parents and I know this is a lot easier said than done, need to get your kids outside playing with the other kids in the neighborhood. When I was a kid my father would grab a golf club raise it over his head say something unintelligible look at me and I was intelligent enough to already be out the door. I was playing with my friends and learn how to be social, how to find my place how to be a fairly decent second baseman, and a pretty good soccer player to boot. I can't remember the great times I had playing video games inside but I do remember being in the Cub Scouts and playing sandlot ball with my friends live down the street., so although this is a related story because the way were eating is not only a very wasteful way of using her food sources but it is apparently also killing our young people through obesity and related diseases. And as a slight aside with 83% of all the money being spent on health care being obesity related I think that changing our habits might just free up some extra resources

III. October 26 207 research on a dire problem carbon capture
and I quote without” carbon capture and sequestration we are all toast”
wow I'm not even sure what sequestration is but let's see if we can understand it better. Chang Lin a scientist with the China sustainable energy program and the Berkeley Lab issue that gloomy proclamation earlier this week and it's a fitting description of the current world situation when it comes to global warming to make it worse lin Lin added that the world is not responding to the challenge well at least not yet..

We have invested in deep research or spend much money in testing out the scenarios he said there are a lot of uncertainties

Still it's not over yet and the University of Texas this week announced it has received a $38 million grant to study the feasibility of injecting carbon dioxide into Brine filled underground wells over a 10 year period.
Sequestration is the storage of the carbon dioxide that we're going to be capturing so that it doesn't go back into the atmosphere and create global warming. So if we produce carbon dioxide we have to have a place to put it so worried an opponent where it will get into the atmosphere. Looks like a bit of using old empty wells to inject the carbon dioxide and to liquids that will hold and keep it from escaping into the atmosphere.

The Texas project is part of the Southeast regional carbon sequestration partnership funded by the national energy technology laboratory of the Department of Energy their goal is to study carbon dioxide injection and storage capacity at the Tuscaloosa Woodbine geological that stretches from Texas to Florida region has the potential to store more than 200,000,000,000 tons of this guest which the department says is equal to about 33 years of admissions beginning in the fall of 2008 SECARB scientists will start to inject 1,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year into a Brian reservoir near Natchez Mississippi the brine is up to 10,000 feet below the surface in some ways the US is in Saudi Arabia of gaping holes more in the future.
