Listener Letters & E-mail (Paul & Doug) - 5:00 Sponsored by: CMI Electric

It's time for Listener Letters. What do we have Doug?

  1. Our first letter comes from Hugh P. Dupre' of Bird In Hand, PA. Hugh inquires: "Given the option, what is the better fuel to use for my furnace - oil, natural gas or electric?";
    1. Efficiency
    2. Pollution
    3. Comfort
    4. Cost
  2. Our next letter comes from Igor Utne, from Wilmington, De. Igor asks: "What's the story on hybrids and buying a new battery when the cars battery burns out? When does it lose it power? And how much will it cost me?";
    Look up no one really knows and 10 yr. guarantee .however none of cars... about 8000 in today's dollars
  3. Our third letter comes from William Hunt. Wyoming, De. He wants to know: "Are there any rebates or credits for installing Solar water heat?";
    1. Yes each state is different, fed money also
    2. Depending on rebate, usually 5 to 7 years max, sooner in some cases. Typically these are listed on state and federal government sites
  4. Our last letter is from Thomas Loud of Newark, DE, who says: "I heard that there are some drawbacks to converting grain, grass etc to ethanol and to using tillable land for producing fuel. Is this true?";
    1. rising food prices and consequent feed,...
    2. for a lot of the fuels .ie switch grass, grains and beets and other plant sources + lots of cost and energy to produce the fuels ..
  5. short term fix we will need acreage for food, .off the beaten path we need to conserve, car pool, and use mass transit more, electric cars serve better and solve more problems, even if we took all the grain and converted to ethanol only about 10% of what we need, now .

Thanks to CMI Electric for sponsoring this weeks Listener Letters. Remember, we'll answer your questions too.
