The New York Times published an article on Tuesday about the 30 US Senators that are "on the fence" about climate legislation.
It's a fascinating look at the American political system, and it makes it clear that Senators Kerry, Graham, and Leiberman - the champions of the still-unfinished but much-anticipated "hybrid" climate and energy bill - still have a lot of negotiating to do as they make the rounds and collect votes.
So far, however, so good.
Here's what one of the fence-sitters, New Hampshire Republican Judd Gregg, had to say after a meeting with Kerry last week:
"I think he's trying to approach this in a creative way, and I'm listening. It's better than where they started."
And here's a comment from another fence-sitter, Alaska Democrat Mark Begich:
"I felt I got a lot of what I needed, understanding the timetable and the schedule, and what sources will be regulated first, which won't be."
