Tankless Hot Water Heater

Can you recommend a good brand for a tankless hot water heater (by brand, quality, and price)? I'm looking at potentially getting one installed and want to figure out the actual cost. I don't want to go super low end, but I also don't want to go super high end. A suggestion for something that's average and economical would help. Thanks.
The Expert Answer:
There is a lot of controversy out there about tankless units, on base and installation costs as well as on payback savings. More than specific model, I think the devil is in the details of what your installer can actually vouch for or guarantee in terms of performance or savings. I would take a look at the following rather critical Consumer Reports review find if a local installer can guarantee shortcomings that are addressed here. Consumer Reports.

I heard that tankless water heaters can actually cause a lot of water waste in that you need to wait a while for the water to heat up. Can you address that? Is that normal? Or was it not installed properly? I have heard several people complain about how long it takes to heat the water.

Performance-price ratio is another point we must take into account.
