Charlie Szoradi, president and founder of GREENandSAVE.com, has asked Mayor Michael Nutter to consider underwriting training courses he launched in January that certify people to perform home-energy consultations. In exchange, Szoradi has proposed to provide scholarships for students taking the courses and, for each student trained, to provide up to 50 coupons that would give homeowners a 25 percent discount off the cost of a home energy audit.

The way Szoradi sees it, the plan would increase both the demand for home energy audits and the supply of auditors, while also stimulating more business for companies that provide things like attic insulation and energy-efficient appliances..."
