Investing in Geothermal Air Conditioning and Heating

There has never been a better time to invest in Geothermal Air Conditioning and Heating. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has lifted the caps on Tax Credits to Qualified Geothermal Air Conditioners, previously limited to $2000. Only Geothermal HVAC Technology qualifies for these unprecedented Tax Credits.

This is the way it works: Outdoor temperatures fluctuate with the changing seasons but underground temperatures don’t. Four to six feet below the earth’s surface, temperatures remain relatively constant year-round. A geothermal system, which typically consists of an indoor unit and a water well or a buried earth loop, capitalizes on these constant temperatures to provide “free” energy. In the Summer, heat from the building is carried from the home, and deposited into the cooler earth. In the Winter, the process reverses, and the heat stored in the Earth is carried indoors. The indoor unit compresses the heat to a higher temperature and distributes it throughout the building.

Geothermal Air Conditioning works anywhere the you can either drill for water, or put in closed loop piping. This website gives a good idea of what your underground temperature is. Anything above freezing, or below 90 degrees is worth the investment.

When it's possible, and especially when we have limited land, we recommend pump and reinject technology.

The Federal Incentives resulting from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provide for a tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of installation of the Geothermal Air Conditioning and Heating Systems. There are state and local incentives that are impressive as well. Commercial Geothermal incentives come in the form of Federal Tax Credits and Accelerated MACR Depreciation, resulting in impressive incentives.

In about 1990, I thought that I had discovered geothermal, or ground water cooled air conditioning. As it turned out, It had been around for quite some time, and Oklahoma State University under the direction of James Bose had done extensive work in the design. I traveled there and was certified as a designer. It became the focus of Egg Systems. In about 1995, we began to expand our focus to other HVAC technologies. But we never stopped doing Geothermal Air Conditioning. In March of 2009, as a result of the Federal Stimulus Package, we began to focus once again on this technology. Egg Geothermal Air Conditioning and Heating sales have increased as a result.

I like the idea that we can have free cooling and heating from the earth. Egg Geothermal Heat Pumps is a great way to reduce our carbon footprint. The economic stimulus package and tax credits and rebates make this worthwhile.

I am doing all I can to see that we can reduce emissions and save our electrical consumption Egg Geothermal Air Conditioning is one of the better answers I have seen. Great rebates and tax credits, and half the electrical consumption. What a fantastic combination!

Having worked in Air Conditioning for most of my life, I have to say that I have seen great things come from Geothermal Technology, but now it's more affordable and dependable than ever. This is the HVAC technolog of today.

Fantastic information! It's great to see the word is spreading about geothermal heating and cooling. As the public receives more information about this technology and the tax incentives available, I think there will be a large interest. Thanks for sharing!!

I thought that geothermal technology was fairly new! I did not know much about it until recently. I am trying to do my part to "be green" and everyday I am learning about so many new and exciting ways to do that. Thank you for all of the great info.

How deep does someone actually have to go down to get any benefit from a passive geothermal air system, seems like a very inexpensive alternative.

Geothermal Air Conditioning is not a new technology by far. The ways in which it is used is new. The Egg Geothermal company is a leader in worldwide geothermal installations. In fact the owner of the company Jay Egg is about to have his book come out explaining the ins and outs of geothermal heat pumps (GHP). Starting in 2011 the federal government will be only issuing tax credits out for geothermal heat pumps, there will be no more credits for standard heat pumps. Along with these tax credits some states including where I'm from (Florida) are now using the PACE program which allows you to pay the cost of these systems in a yearly bill as part of your property taxes. Very "green" thinking indeed.

A few weeks ago I had a chance to meet with Jay Egg, the writer Geothermal HVAC, by McGraw Hill Publishing. We talked about replacing my current system with a geothermal unit and the options associated with it. I've been looking at installing a geothermal ac system in my house for quite sometime and thought myself to be educated. While I was right on my basic understanding, he truly showed me his expertise on the efficiency comparison of different types of systems, specifically open loop v.s. closed loop systems. He showed me how thermal retention is a big problem and how the ground where closed loops are installed can heat up over a period of years and cause the unit to become dramatically less efficient overtime. This article is a good example of the education needed by professionals and consumers looking to get in on this technology. Great work!

This is such a fantastic approach to heating and cooling. It is simple in technology and you can actually link into the grid and obtain a return.

Way to go Radiators! You really get this! I hope a lot more people begin to understand that the way to saving energy starts at the end of the grid...our homes and businesses. Not from a windmill or a solar array in the desert necessarily.

I'm having a geothermal put in my house...I've done the research, and there is nothing better in the world to cool and heat a home or business!

I just got one of those fancy systems put on my house and it works great! My house stays at a steady 72 F in 90 F weather well using barely any electricity. I got it from egggeothermal, after seeing how close they are to the top on everything I searched about geothermal hvac.

Next time I need my HVAC systems replaced I'm definitely going to get a bid from a geothermal contractor. It seems like a wonderful new technology!
