The US State Department announced on Tuesday that Philadelphia architecture firm KieranTimberlake has won the competition to design the new US Embassy in London.
Construction of the innovatively-insulated, solar-powered "crystalline cube" will begin in 2013, and James Timberlake, co-founder of KieranTimberlake, is thrilled:
We wanted to create a building that would be an environment for diplomacy, but also serve as diplomacy for the environment. I think that’s the reason the jury embraced us.
