Ordinary Joe and His Light Fixtures

Did anyone see Undercover Boss a couple of weeks ago?

One of our friends just told us we had to watch the 7-Eleven episode. So we watched. And we're glad we did.

The Undercover Boss premise is that a fancy CEO puts on a disguise, assumes a fake identity, and leaves his penthouse office for a tour of duty on his company's front lines. The 7-Eleven episode features Joe DePinto, a young, West-Point-educated businessman and follows him from store to store to doughnut factory to delivery truck as he explores the less-glamorous side of his convenience store empire.

The reason our friend thought we'd like the episode is that one of the things Joe unhappily discovers is that 7-Eleven maintenance crews are slow to replace burnt-out light fixtures. And, since we do so much work with LED lighting, our friend was curious as to how we'd react.

Well, we don't think light fixtures should burn out. If we had our way, we'd install an LED system in every 7-Eleven facility worldwide, save those maintenance crews lots of time, radically reduce electricity usage in the process, and let Joe DePinto worry about other things.

So, Joe, what do you think? Want us to put you in touch with LED Saving Solutions?

What a crappy way to try and do business development. Masking this effort as a news story rather than what it really is - a weak attempt at trying to get a meeting to sell your product. Based on the work featured on the LED Saving Solutions site, it does not even appear that you could handle a job of that size. Instead of wasting our time with "stories" like these, why don't you just sit by the phone and wait for the CEO of 7-Eleven to call you.

That's a bit harsh. Sure, there's not much obvious weight to this story, but it gives an example of the way people should be thinking. Who knows, Mr DePinto may just happen upon this article one day and it may just make him think. If not, it may be found by others.
It's certainly not doing any harm in my eyes.

Chillstar - I think we can both agree that there are so many interesting "green" topics that have plenty of weight that should have been focused on instead of this. I generally enjoy the stories from this site, however this one felt lazy and solely promotional and insulted my intelligence enough that I felt compelled to respond.

Sorry we published this one on the main feed. It's a GREENandSAVE blog post, not a news item. And we've now pushed it off into the blog feed where it belongs. Thanks for pointing it out. We need to be more careful to keep the news separate from thoughts and announcements, and these comments have led us to talk about that. Please call us out whenever you see anything you don't like. It helps us get better. Jake, G&S News
