Human Activities Adding To Climate Change Since The Industrial Revolution

A recent report released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that climate change due to human activities is evident going back to the start of the industrial revolution in 1750. Human behavior has caused more greenhouse gases to be produced, resulting in changed temperature, atmosphere, precipitation, storms, sea levels, and ocean acidification, the report says.

Centuries later, scientists are starting to understand why these changes have occurred. Over the past century, temperatures have risen nationally in the United States, according to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center. Temperatures have risen at an average of 0.56ºF per decade from 1979-2005. Alaska and the Southeast experienced the largest temperature difference during these years, rising 3.3ºF per century in Alaska, and cooling of -0.04ºF in the Southeast. NOAA and NASA have also reported the eight warmest years on record since 1880 have occurred since 2001, with 2005 being the warmest year.

Land warms faster than oceans, and the winter season warms faster than the summer season, according to The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Temperatures in the Arctic region have increased substantially in the past 100 years, causing ice caps to melt and many wildlife species to become endangered or extinct. Much of this problem is very likely due to humans over-working the climate, according to IPCC, as well as the amount of radiation from the sun.

Worldwide sea levels have also drastically changed in the last century, according to IPCC. Tide measurements and satellite altimetry have been measured at approximately 4.8-8.8 inches. The rising sea levels have been attributed to temperature changes of the atmosphere and ocean.

There are several factors leading to sea level changes. Warmer sea temperatures are causing glaciers and ice caps to melt, adding to the volume of ocean waters. Warm sea temperatures are also causing the Greenland Ice Sheet and the Antarctic Ice Sheet to melt. Overall, ocean water is expanding due to warmer ocean temperatures. Sea levels have been rising worldwide over the past century, particularly along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and in Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Australia, Africa, Europe and Japan.

Not only are sea levels increasing, but oceans are becoming more acidic due to carbon dioxide emissions associated with human activity. Ocean acidification has increased 0.1 units from pre-Industrial Revolution levels, the EPA says. Ocean acidification affects calcium carbonate infiltration causing shells and skeletons to be less available which affects the health of corals and other organisms. Future ocean acidification could most likely obstruct the development of shells and skeletons and furthermore affect many marine organisms.

All of these factors have added to climate change, and now that we are starting to understand why, we may be able to do something about it.

Oh ya? Who is going to win the NFC East this year too? Fools!
Stop scaring my kids pretty please? Be reasonable.
This 23 year old CO2 theory is on its knees now in wide spread scientific debate and from the general public. And why would you believers still think the earth is dying anyways. Like show me. History will laugh at you all for for this. It’s too late now when you consider it’s been two a half decades of predictions.
Get ahead of the curve be responsible enviros who love our planet, not just fear for it. Let’s work together both believers and deniers to at least preserve, protect and respect our world instead of saving it with fear from what is clearly proving at this point, a CO2 mistake.
Peace. Do the right thing. Champion the planet for a great and challenging future, not a promise of doom.

This article isn't promising doom to our planet. It is stating facts pulled from the EPA about how the climate has been changing over the past few centuries. This isn't a matter of opinons on who thinks the Earth is dying. The public deserves to know what is going on in the environment, and here it is. Don't be in denial about change, its happening all around you every single day.

What a crock. Another warmie with their very own personal convenient definition of the CO2 theory that does not include what the IPCC promises, a climate crisis. Nice Greenzi. Ever heard of SAVE THE PLANET? You warmies have managed to make disagreable weather crisis weather? Is that your crisis?
Check the facts. Look at the evidence. Search for the proof.
Try looking outside YOUR window, instead of looking at the picture of a polar bear.
Now describe this 23 year old climate crisis outside your window please?
No crisis, no proof, no emergency but I promise that Nuztuki and Dizzy May will be jailed for this costly false call to war against this liberal WMD scam.

This story is propaganda. CO2 is such a minuscule minority factor in climate that it is not worth spending our time on. CO2 has been at much higher levels than now in prehistory and this author cannot inform the readers of that fact. And with higher CO2 levels, climate has been much hotter with flourishing ecosystems in prehistory and this author cannot inform the readers of that fact. Sea levels have changed throughout history and prehistory was lower by hundreds of feet due to natural earth processes where man's recent effect, if it even exists, is insignificant. This author is ignoring facts that are relevant. Again, this story is propaganda.
Editorial:
Please go work on understanding really why climate varies. Prehistory is full of climate conditions that were extremely worse than the current earth conditions. Go figure out the real factors that affect the earth climate system and then come back to your readers with real fact based articles.

Green is Mean
Sustainability is Poverty
Climate Change is Weather
Global warmers are modern day witch burners scaring our kids to death.

Many contributors to the IPCC reports have little or no expertise in the field. In any case science is not about voting it is about testing the predictions of theories against data. The theory had not predicted the recent cooling. The anthropogenic CO2 proponents have no explanation for earlier warm periods and tried, unsuccessfully, to eliminate them from the record. I believe that the IPCC process has allowed an undue influence of politics which has vitiated the scientific validity of this what can truthfully be called, a disproved theory of Climate Change. You fools will be laughed and cursed in the history books, I promise, right next to witch burners and disco. Let's hope this unpopularity and doubting of this 23 year old theory is a start to put an end to this mass insanity.
Let's preserve, protect and respect, not save and rescue with needless fear from a non existent enemy. Yes we need now sources of energy; it’s called the future, as in progress. It’s like saying back in 1900 that we will need more room for the extra horses needed by the year 2000. And the smoggy 70’s are gone, we are living longer now than ever and why you climate cowards can’t be honorable enough to face the future with courage is embarrassing to future generations that will not tolerate having a death threat held over THEIR heads for ANOTHER 23 years.
Stop scaring my kids, freaks!
Keep chanting “they say” like obedient Greenzis all you want and get a sign that says THE END IS NEAR and march yourselves right into history. Your disco science is political garbage and you fools fell for it. The theory will be generally be denounced soon. You didn’t expect this no show of a climate crisis for us to be sustainable for another quarter of a century now did you? Take some nice warm skirts to your wild little “fear the unknown” demonstration. Ta ta!

Why isn't it fair to stop telling our kids they don't have a future because of CO2 when none of us has personally experienced this climate crisis after a quarter of a century of waiting.
How does that make me an EXXON loving neocon that loves pollution.
You hate-filled and misery loving believers scaring our kids will suffer a back-lash from the next generation who won't take kindly to being threatened like this.
Arrest David Suzuki, Al Gore, Dizzy May, lazy politically correct teachers and so called journalists for taking us to war against this WMD-like enemy of climate change.
History will curse us all for this irresponsible era of environMENTALism.

We will never know the real future ahead of us. One thing is for sure.. pollution is everywhere. It only increases and it will never decrease. If this goes on continuously, what do you expect the earth to do? Clean itself? Free itself from all these pollution? The earth did not do this to itself. People did.

Climates encompasses the statistics of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, rainfall, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological elements in a given region over long periods of time. Climate can be contrasted to weather, which is the present condition of these same elements and their variations over periods up to two weeks.
