Pennsylvania Company Announces $1 Million in Scholarships for Private Sector Green Job Training to Help Spur U.S. Economy
GREATER PHILADELPHIA, PA—GREENandSAVE’s Eco Academy, Devon, PA, announces the launch of an unprecedented $1 million Energy Service Scholarship Program (ESSP) to help create job opportunities and stay ahead of the expanding demand for trained green building and energy specialists.
“We’re giving away $1 million faster than any game show,” jokes Charlie Szoradi, Eco-Academy founder and president. “Our $1 million in new scholarships will go to qualified individuals in any of four key sectors: U.S. veterans, home installation contractors, home inspectors, and real estate agents, who register between Memorial Day and July 4, 2010. We’re seeding the job opportunity market to ensure we provide opportunities that attract, educate, train, and provide excellent, long-term careers for a whole new class of green energy workers.”
Szoradi, an architect, LEED Accredited Professional, and BPI certified energy auditor, who answered the “green call” back in 1991, says, “We designed our Eco Academy to provide a unique, much needed skill-set through intensive continuing education curriculum to meet the exploding demand, and give people in these sectors the collective ability to make a meaningful impact on the carbon and energy footprint for homeowners and building owners/managers across the U.S.”
GREENandSAVE projects the combination of this integrated efficiency training initiative can immediately impact over 15,000 people that, through their hands-on work in the field, may impact the lives and checkbooks of more than 1.5 million Americans each year. Data is based on a conservative estimate of trainees servicing 100 families in a given year.
According to Szoradi, “Graduates of the Eco Academy improve lives and save people money: homeowners, building owners and managers, producers, municipalities, etc. This new class of green workers can give real leverage to our national shift away from dependence on foreign oil and toward a more secure, self-reliant national energy environment.”
Szoradi concludes, “Creating new, well-paying jobs that keep up with demand for green, sustainable building products, and ‘best practices’ methods is vital to our new economy. We hope our $1 million plays a role in helping ensure the future of living, working and building in the U.S. is clean, green, safe, and sustainable.”

Veterans

The offer also extends to immediate family members of the soldiers and military personnel. The part-time work is particularly key for military spouses who are often left with the difficult task of caring for children and managing the household finances. Home Efficiency Consultants can schedule their own work, and the Home Efficiency Checkups generate from $295 to $395 per visit. Since each checkup only takes a few hours, a stay-at-home parent can book the time around their children. A high school graduate level education is required to join the program, and proof of military experience or relations.
